Father starting up his Curtiss JN9
Grandfather in his Thomas Flyer
Calliteight (working title)
This is the story of the lives and loves of a group of privileged young men in 1914 who risked their lives by stepping to the forefront of American naval aviation and became the original top guns. Barely ten years after the Wright brothers demonstrated their plane, aviators were flying combat missions in Europe. The United States lagged behind. So groups of wealthy young men from Ivy League colleges banned together, learned to fly, and jumped into aviation history. CallItEight is one of those stories. “Before the Great War, life was simple,” the story begins, tracing the maturation of young men from carefree post boarding school and debutante parties to appreciating the freedom of flying to life and death over the muddy and bloody trenches of World War I.
