Confined Spaces

Jon Megquire #3

Projected launch July, 2024

Jon is struggling and desperate for funds. He sees his former boarding school classmate, Norman Denjer as his savior. However, Jon soon discovers that Norman's success is built on a foundation of toxic lies, a real estate Ponzi scheme, and shoddy construction. Jon confronts Norman, robbing him of his dream development and threatening to send him to jail for life. Confined Space explores themes of friendship, moral dilemmas, and the consequences of greed.

Cape Cod, 1984. Jon Megquire feels chronically unsettled. Tired of fruitless attempts at setting up a major league baseball franchise, the restless man takes his life on a left turn towards a three day construction conference. And just as he’s finding a glimmer of hope in a new career, his world  comes crashing down when his roommate’s body is discovered encased in expanding foam.

Unnerved by the brutal act, Jon is shocked when he’s plunged into the investigation surrounding the bizarre crime. But with all the confusion around supposedly cursed land and a lethal case of  arson, he fears his fresh start is about to fall fatally flat. Will his search for a brighter future be derailed by the twisted death?

Death at the Edge of the Diamond

Jon Megquire #1

Published July 17, 2020

Growing up is hard.  Decisions and distractions pile on.  Jon Megquire intended to enjoy playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 1979 while he tickled his future.  But it didn’t turn out the way he expected.  He expected to have a fun, Cape Cod summer.  Then he could consider growing up and seeking an answer to the age-old question, “So what are you going to do now?”   He did not expect building science and murder.

Recalculating Truth

Published in 2014 by Salty Air Publishing

A novel about finding the truth among the lies

What’s truth these days? Lies seem to be flying around without restraint! Wouldn’t it be great if there was a machine that could tell if someone is lying? No more guessing. Just the facts.

Can the truth be found through physical torture or are there more humane, technological approaches?  Returning from the heat and sweat of Guantanamo, Gus Sainte pulls together a team of scientists to create a device that will read and combine human body tells - in their voice, in their expressions, in their non-verbal communications, and in their statements - to reveal the truth.  As his system, his company, and his life develop, he doesn't always find what he expects particularly in the person of a beautiful former exchange student from Kuwait who mysteriously returns to his life.

Residential QCI Handbook

Published July, 2015

A Guide to the BPI/NREL Job Task Analysis

2/13/21 This guide is out of date. The QCI credential has been updated and greatly improved. There is still a bunch of good information in this guide that will assist in taking multiple choice exams.

The BPI/NREL QCI exam is tough to pass, but every house worked on by a DOE grant supported weatherization agency needs to be inspected by a quality control inspector.  This book was written to match the rigors of the original BPI/QCI exam. The requirements have changed so this is out of date, but it goes through all the elements and Domains in the QCI Job Task Analysis and includes sections on taking multiple choice tests and accurately performing ventilation system testing.  It's still a great resource.
